The organization has executed a technique of media and web gushing, virtual organization and appropriate client assistance, with the goal that it can convey the administrations perfectly and economically (Cook, 2014). By breaking down the market, the executives of Netflix has comprehended that every single piece of substance is critical and selective. Retail Outlets as opposed to working Online Netflix puts stock in working the business on the web, so it has overlooked the weight of retail locations and worked business on the web. With scarcely any workplaces and distribution centers, it has become a virtual organization without any business people and no retails stores. The association had an unmistakable understanding that running business genuinely, similar to Blockbuster may limit the business territories and clients. Thus, it has received a successful methodology, for example open source approach (Enkins, Ford, and Green, 2013). By the utilization of this methodology, the organization had the option to convey its films on DVD players, TVs, cell phones and PCs. Presently, it offers DVD via mail and web based spilling recordings, which make it unique in relation to different rivals in the business. Moreover, the delivery expenses of these DVDs are nearly higher in the market, so clients like to watch gushing recordings. Netflix has upgraded the administrations modes, uti lized by Blockbuster (Gibs, 2009). By offering on the web recordings, the organization had the option to pull in more clients in contrast with Blockbuster and become a pioneer in media outlet. There are a few components, similar to; innovation changes and online business were compelling for the development and accomplishment of Netflixs business over Blockbuster. Evaluating Strategies Netflix is offering its administrations, utilizing two modes, for example online video spilling and DVD via mail. Be that as it may, the association has confronted different issues, however it has dispensed with those issues by offering novel and propelled types of assistance. In this industry, Netflix has predominant situation in media outlet and gushing video advertise due to its powerful administration and rising innovation (Grant, 2016). What's more, evaluating system of Netflix is likewise an alluring component of its administrations. It has alluring rates and plans for the clients and tempting them towards its administrations. It works its administrations on month to month membership premise. It has three well known plans, which are given underneath; $8.99 for each title in turn $13.99 for two titles one after another $16.99 for three titles one after another These plans of the organization give boundless DVDs consistently and spilling likewise (Jenkins, and Williamson, 2015). The organization doesn't charge for late and due dates and this methodology separates it from other household film rentals. It doesn't charge expenses, if the client restores the DVDs. Blockbuster was actualizing outdated valuing technique and charging $5 for each film. The main consideration behind Blockbusters disappointment is that clients loathed the expenses charged on late returns (Pelts, 2017). In the wake of examining its valuing methodology, Netflix has improved its systems likewise. Netflix Innovations Innovation developments are the focal point of Netflixs business and promoting technique. The organization has received different inventive strategies and frameworks to upgrade its business tasks and pulled in an enormous number of clients towards its administrations. In the year 2017, Netflix is in the rundown of most creative organizations on the planet. Since, this association had begun its business tasks; it has actualized problematic development (Newman, 2010). 7 Wrong Reasons for Wanting to Become a Pilot

7 Wrong Reasons for Wanting to Become a Pilot The dream of becoming a pilot is a great one, as its a very unique career path. However, a lot of people have numerous misconceptions about the experience of a pilot. This drives them to have very unrealistic expectations of the job and it causes negative reactions when they encounter the realities. The mind-boggling statistics of aviation schools helps elaborate this.Research showed that 50% to 70% of future pilots in the United States drop-out of aviation schools. This makes it the discipline with the highest dropout rate. Why does this happen? There are numerous reasons this could be happening, such as lack of funds to complete training or receiving poor instructions from flight instructors, etc.But one that stands out is that this happens because the process is not what people expect. Most people with the ambition of becoming a pilot have the view that it will open them up to glamorous life and all they need to do is just sit and press a few buttons in a cockpit. How terribly wrong co uld that be?Being a pilot is a rigorous job that requires determination and focus in order to achieve success. Flying a plane is a lot of work both in training and in practice. So, expecting to breeze right through training and start flying to exotic destinations, while earning millions of dollars for working just 3 times a month is quite hilarious. This is what breaks most students; the realities are simply different from their expectations.Furthermore, there is a huge shortage of pilots globally as a result of pilots reaching the required retirement age and no qualified replacements due to these dropouts. Source: Pilot Career NewsAbove is a chart that shows this huge demand globally, with Asia, Europe and North America taking the lead. Before we go further and see the wrong reasons for wanting to become a pilot, lets have a look at some general facts about being a pilot:GENERAL FACTS ABOUT PILOTSPilots Do Not Earn as Much as You’d ExpectSo you thought that becoming a pilot would enlist you into the lifestyle of the rich and famous?Well, to burst the bubble, it wont.As a matter of fact, when you start out as a pilot youd most likely not be making much.So yes, you will be transporting hundreds of people a day for an average salary at best.As a Reserve Pilot, There is no GuaranteeWhen working as a pilot, you could be “on reserve. This means that youll sit around the airport for most or all of your day, hoping for a senior pilot to call in sick, in order for you to fly. Hows that for glamorous? In fact, there are days youll sit at the airport for more than 10 hours, pace back and forth b etween terminals, try to catch as much sleep as you can and have to eat at the same eatery throughout the day. When a more senior college is off for a week, you then get to fly for some days.Expect Very Hectic SchedulesThis is a huge reality youll have to come to terms with if you intend to become a pilot. As a pilot, you will most likely be on duty for 20 to 23 days of a month and have just a few days to yourself or family.Whats more, your commute time to see your family or have time to yourself is a part of your off days.So you will end up using either a day or two out of the limited time you have to get back to your family.Seniority is the Order of the DayEvery aspect of the airline industry is hinged on seniority. A pilot having less flight experience but a longer duration at a company will always have a higher priority than one who just has experience. It doesnt make sense, but that’s how it works. It is best practice to stick to one job and grow as most companies give your work duration with them greater preference than your time in the air.Now that’s out of the way, let’s have a look at the wrong reasons for wanting to be a pilot.WRONG REASONS FOR WANTING TO BECOME A PILOT1. Love for TravelingA lot of people think that because they love traveling, they should become pilots but that is a very wrong reason to make a career choice in piloting.Piloting is not the only profession that entails moving from place to place. In fact, it isnt like most people think.A lot of people think that pilots travel around the world constantly so they will have time to go sightseeing and explore new cultures and meet new people.Well, sorry to disappoint you but thats far from it.Do pilots travel around the world?Yes.But they do not have the luxury or time to go on an adventure as most people think. Most often when they arrive at a destination they have just a few hours to rest before taking off again to another destination so there is actually little or no time left to expl ore the city. Most often, pilots prefer to get a hotel and sleep before the time for the extra flight arrives.Asides not having time to explore, there is also another reason why your love for traveling isnt enough for you to choose to be a pilot. Most times when you travel and you enjoy the view and the adventure chances are that you are not the one driving yourself. The traveling experience is fun when you are the passenger, that way you will be relaxed and have enough time on your hands to fake in the beautiful sights around. But if you are the one driving the car or flying the plane its a different ball game.Pilots travel all the time, yes, but they are not passengers they are the ones conveying the passengers, they have to fly the plane and constantly check that everything is working fine. The pilot duties while flying take away most of the fun. While the passenger has enough time to observe the beautiful sky and the amazing view in the air the pilot cant shift all his focus to enjoyi ng the beautiful view always because he has to be alert to make sure nothing goes wrong. At the end of the flight, the pilot is usually so fatigued that all he thinks about is how to dive into bed and sleep. That doesnt sound so fun full does it?Having a flare for traveling is not considered to be a good reason to become a pilot in aviation companies. In fact, when you go for a test or an exam it is advisable not to mention that as a reason for wanting to become a Pilot because it could get you disqualified. If you love traveling and exploring new places then you should most likely become a tourist rather than being a Pilot.2. Good PayA lot of people make the mistake of choosing a career based on the salary being paid to people in the profession. When making a career choice, money shouldnt be a determining factor. In as much as we all want a good life, money shouldnt dictate to you what to do and what not to do with your life.Putting money ahead of every other thing is the reason why we have a lot of people engaging in fraudulent means of making money. There is something about loving money that corrupts the mind and takes away the fun of the career. In the transport and aviation sector, pilots have the highest salary. Take a look at the chart below. Source: BBCDespite being the best paid in the sector they dont have the highest pay on earth.A survey carried out in 2017 showed that the median annual wage of flight engineers, copilot, and pilots in 2017 was $137,330 with the highest ten percent earning above $208,000 and the lowest ten percent earning below $68,230.The same report showed that commercial pilots had a median annual salary of $78,480 as of May 2017. Below is a graph showing the median salary of pilots. Source: BLS.govThese figures look good but you can attest to the fact that they really are not the highest annual wages you have seen or heard of.There are many other professions that pay more than what pilots earn.In fact, if the risks and dangers associated with being a pilot should be put into consideration, they should be paid a lot more than they are currently being paid.If you look at it from the angle of the risks being taken and the dangers a pilot is constantly exposed to, one may be tempted to say that pilots are being underpaid.Apart from the risks they are exposed to, the cost of training to be a pilot is very expensive. The starting salary of most pilots is barely enough to sustain them. After the training fee is paid there is little or nothing left out of the salary to cater for other personal needs such as family expenses and paying off loans. You will have to be really patient and work for a long time before being promoted to a position that your salary will be sufficien t for you.Take your eyes off the fat salary of some senior captains; what you should ask yourself is how long it took them to get to the level where they earn that much.If you are thinking of being a pilot because you want to have a fat bank account, then you should think twice because it will take a lot of time and patience to have fat extra cash as a pilot. At the start, if you are not financially disciplined you may end up spending more than you earn because of the heavy financial cost of training.Dont become a pilot because you want to be paid well, you’ll be in for a rude shock because the fattest of salaries are not in the aviation sector.3. Family TraditionSome people can be easily influenced and tend to choose a career path based on their environment and the prevalent profession in the area they grew up in.There are many people that didnt actually get to discover what actually they wanted to do because their passion was drowned in the prevailing norm of society.A very disas trous thing to do is to make a career choice based on someone elses passion at the expense of your own.You must have heard or read of people that were born into a family known for a particular occupation, for example, plumbing and virtually all the children had to become plumbers. If you want to find satisfaction in what you do and to put in your best, you must not allow your career path to be dictated by any other person but you. Be the captain of your ship. You may wonder what Im on about, well there are people that want to become pilots because virtually every male in their family tree was or is a pilot hence they feel they have an obligation to the family to become a pilot too. There are certain family traditions that should be upheld but choosing a career because everyone in the family is doing it doesnt make sense. In 2010, people were asked why they wanted to become pilots, one of them answered and said that he is from an aviation family and went further to say that his uncles, f ather, and grandfather were pilots and if he chose not to be a pilot he would be breaking the family tradition and isolating himself from the rest of the family.Thats a very wrong motive.Nowhere did he say anything about his personal disposition towards piloting all he said was about his family. Its a great thing to come from a family of pilots but your uncles and grandfather wont be the ones to fly the plane when the time comes for you to become a pilot, they wont be there with you to share the burden of the rigorous training. You need a personal passion and zeal for it.Piloting isnt a job that can be run on borrowed passion. It’s not wrong to be motivated and inspired by family and loved ones but ensure that you dont relegate your passion to the background and pursue a different one.To be a pilot you need all the zeal, excitement and passion that you can have because when the going gets tough that is what will keep you going. If you try to become a pilot based on fulfilling family t radition and not wanting to be the odd one out, then chances are that you may eventually drop out of the training process. This is because you will come to terms with reality and realize that it isnt just about your family, its a hundred percent about you, your passion and your will power.4. The Luxurious LifestyleFor some people, the reason why they dream about being pilots every night is because of the perceived luxurious life that pilots live and the beautiful appearance of pilots.Well, its a known fact that pilots have one of the most fashionable and good looking uniforms and exude an aura of luxury when they walk past you in the airport. Not only are the uniforms fashionable and beautiful, but they are also free of charge. But there is more to being a pilot than wearing fashionable clothes. If piloting was all about wearing fashionable clothes then pilots wont be pilots they will be models on the runway.Besides it isnt the fashionable uniform that flies the plane it is the pilot.A good uniform is useless where there is no knowledge of how to fly. When faced with a harsh condition you need more than a good dress sense to pull through.Apart from the gorgeous uniforms pilots are also entitled to free meals while flying and while in hotels.A lot of people assume that pilots sleep in very luxurious hotels and have access to all kinds of luxury when they travel.Well, the truth is pilots also sleep in regular cheap hotels.Besides, there is more to being a pilot than the perceived luxurious lifestyle.Yes, they have the opportunity to sleep in beautiful hotels sometimes but they are also denied days and months of sleep on their own bed at home.Due to the busy flying schedule pilots rarely have time to visit and sleep at home except when they are on leave. They dont have the standard days or weekends off, this is because most of their time is spent at work. They miss spending quality time with their families and most often they miss out on family activities such as a bir thday or anniversary celebration and also holidays. They may have the money to live luxurious lives and enjoy themselves but the truth is they rarely have time for any of that. They dont have the freedom to attend occasions or to change their working days to go for a vacation or a trip with their family. The beauty of having money is to be able to spend it the way you want, the time you want and with people, you want to spend it with. This is one luxury that pilots dont have.No matter how cozy the bed in the luxurious hotel they sleep in is, they still yearn for their bed in their home sweet home.If you want to become a pilot because you want to live a life of luxury and glam them you should have a rethink because there will be very little time for that.5. RespectThere is a certain type of respect that pilots command when they walk which could probably be due to the majestic way in which they carry themselves. Most often, people want this type of respect and consider starting a career i n the aviation sector. This is totally wrong. If you want to become a pilot because you want to feed your ego with respect then you should have a rethink.Yes, a lot of people admire and speak kindly to pilots but that isnt a substantial reason for wanting to become one.If respect from the world around you is a determining factor for choosing a career then you are going to have a hard time picking one because it is not only pilots that are respected. There are many other professions out there that command respect from society. One thing people dont know about pilots is that they seldom get positive feedback. They do not have access to rewards and promotions that other corporate jobs have.If you want to become a pilot because of the respect, chances are that you are someone that likes being constantly commended and applauded for a job well done.Sorry to burst your bubbles, but pilots dont have any of that they do not get salary raise because they flew a plane well. They are expected to do a perfect job whenever they fly so they dont get paid or praised for that because it is more of an obligation than a choice. On the other hand, they could lose their job for not flying well.Outsiders may think that pilots enjoy a lot of accolades in their profession but the truth is there is barely any of that. All they do is to fly and go back home when necessary asides that, nothing else matters to the bosses.Whatever respect or fame they have may be from outsiders may just be borne out of admiration for their appearance, other than that, pilots are sometimes considered to be glorified taxi drivers. All they do is to chauffeur” people around the world.6. The Adrenaline Rush and Excitement of Flying a PlaneA lot of people are guilty of this. While excitement and fascination with planes especially from a young age has been what made a lot of pilots identify their passion for flying, for other people its just a temporary obsession that wont stand the test of time.Flying an airplane look s like fun. If you live close to an airport you will most likely be thrilled to see something as big as an airplane flying in the air.A lot of action movies also make flying an airplane look very adventurous and fun-filled.Well flying an airplane is fun but your quest for an adrenaline rush shouldnt push you to become a Pilot because there is more to it.Apart from the excitement that comes from flying an airplane and the beautiful view in the air, a lot of work still has to be done by the pilot. Most pilots can attest to the fact that after the first few flights the adrenaline rush wears off and flying becomes more of a job that needs to be done than a crazy fun adventure.A lot of effort has to be put in by the pilot to make the airplane take off and to keep it in the air.Flying a plane is serious business because any little mistake could cause the loss of many lives including yours.Piloting is not about impulse or adrenalin rush it is about meticulous and calculative actions. If you enjoy constant adrenaline rush from excitement then you should consider doing certain things like car racing, zip lining, skydiving etc. but definitely not piloting. You cant throw caution to the air while flying an airplane, yes the view is exciting but you cant get carried away by it you need to constantly be at alert. The excitement can be easily short-lived if conditions change while flying. You can be enjoying the beautiful view one minute and the next minute there is trouble and you will be filled with fear and dread of uncertainty as to whether or not the airplane will crash. In addition, a lot of people do not know that certain health factors should be considered before wanting to be a pilot. You may enjoy seeing a plane flying but if you have altitude sickness or phobia for heights you cannot fly a plane.Sadly a lot of people realize this during training and have to drop out.Seeing and watching someone else fly is different from flying it by yourself and it takes a lot for an ai rplane to fly and land successfully and excitement and adrenaline rush plays little or no role in that success.7. A Cozy and Beautiful Work EnvironmentThe pilot spends most of his work time in the cockpit. The cockpit isnt the coziest of places. In fact, most offices have more space and room to move about than the cockpit. For certain people, they choose to become pilots because the work environment of the pilot is perceived to be very beautiful and cozy.If thats the only reason why you want to be a pilot then you are in for a rise shock. When the pilot is flying in the plane, he stays in the cockpit and has to be at alert pushing throttle, pressing buttons, putting on switches and doing a lot of things. The copilot also stays in the cockpit with the pilot and there wont be enough space left, therefore the cockpit can be a bit cramped. It also is usually very busy especially when the weather is bad or there is turbulence in the air.The tension in the cockpit during such times is more tha n that in the passengers section.Aside from the cockpit, the cabin for the pilot is quite small; the beds are small and not as comfortable as the ones at home.Even when the pilot is not flying the airplane, the work environment is still quite stressful due to the fact that there are other airplanes from the same company in the air and whatever affects a flight may affect the entire company. There is also constant tension that could arise from the instability of the aviation sector that could lead to the loss of jobs any time.Pilots also have to undergo constant training and be monitored regularly by the FAA.The fear of failing the test or the training always put them under pressure while on duty. The only time the pilot can shut out all these worries is when he is off duty. So you see, it isnt as cozy and comfortable as you think it.If you are in search of comfort, then you should probably check another industry but definitely not the aviation industry.CONCLUSIONWell, there you have i t. Being a pilot isnt about a celebrity lifestyle or that of glamour. Its about dogged dedication and work, as well as having a passion for flying.Lets face it, if you do not have a passion for flying youd be a miserable a pilot. The first thing you need to ensure is that you have a passion for the job, and youre ready to spend the required time needed to grow as a pilot.Being a pilot is a magnificent career but having the wrong expectations can ruin the whole experience and probably make you one of the 50% to 70% dropouts who didn’t make it through.

His chores were to work in a hotel as a service man and thereafter, worked as a lamplighter in the streets of Charleston almost throughout his youthful stage. Furthermore, he had passion and love over the sea in the Charleston which eventually made him to secure work on the Charleston docks and wharves as a stevedore, sail maker, and eventually become a wheelman in the sea regardless of the dishonor the slaves where accorded despite the titles he had in the sea harbor. He humbled himself throughout the chores he was running in the sea shore that saw him the most knowledgeable pilot across the Charleston harbor. At his mid teenage when he was 17 years, he proposed to Hannah Jones for marriage. Jones was also one of the incarcerated hotel maid in Charleston in the year 1856. Robert Smalls showed his tribute to the master by continuing serving as a slave in his own fathers territory for that substantial period of time. It was at this juncture, April 1861 that America woke up into a Civil War which began with a battle of Fort Sumter near Charleston Harbor. At the tumble of the civil war, Smalls was given the responsibility to bullock the Planter that was affiliated with armed troops. He was mandated to deliver reports, throngs and supplies, to inspect the sea ways and finally to lay mines. Smalls however coxswained the Flowerpot throughout the port of Charleston and further onto the extended rivers along California, to the coastlines of Florida. In the Charleston waterfront, Robert Smalls and the Planters team were able to cross-check the slant of the Federal obstruction ships in the outer anchorage over 6 miles far away from the Charleston seaport. He had confidence and composed himself with content to the Planters crew and proprietors, at some point around 1862 where he began planning on how he can escape from the slavery. He broadly discussed the issue with other fellow slaves whom they were toge ther with an exception of one whom he never had loyalty and trust over him In 1862, the Planter had was navigated ten miles to the southwest of Charleston to facilitate its dock at the Coles Island located along River Stono which was earlier on pulled to pieces. They took large weapons including guns and conveyed them to a fort in Charleston anchorage. Moreover, while in Charleston, the crew had encumbered 200 pounds of riles and 20 cords of kindling onto the Planter. Eventually, the three confederate officers who had accompanied the Planters were court-martialed and later on two of them were convicted and their verdict was later outlooked. As a result, this gave Smalls and the other seven slaves who had planned for an escape in Charleston to the Union Blockade ships. Robert Smalls therefore in their escape plan faked to be captain Relay by wearing his uniform and hat. He therefore sailed the Planter the Southern Wharf and harbored in another wharf to pick his wife Lydia and the child and the entire families of the other crew men they were together. He mana ged to all this out of his expertise and confidence he had gained under the slavery of McKees. Robert Smalls therefore guided the ship through all the five confederate harbor forts without any episode has he gave the exact signals at all the checkpoints the same way as being commanded by Captain Relay. Smalls imitated captain Relays habits and manners, straw hat on the deck to fool the affiliated bystanders from the shore and the forts. in addition, Smalls went further and navigated the Planter past Fort Sumter in the morning straight to the Union Navy fleet where he intended to declare that they have totally surrender the hostage of the Planter. He raised a white piece of sheet to hover high in the Planter to signify their submission to withdraw their solidarity from the captivity. In the process, the Planter was spotted by the USS crew to which they were almost firing it until they spotted the white sheet flying high at the ship. At that moment, the captain of the Onward, John Fredrick Nickels lodged the Planter where Robert Smalls asked him for a United states flag to display to raise it next to the white sheet that made him successfully surrender the Planter and its cargo to the United States Navy which made the escape deal to go through without more constrains though it was not that easy. After the escape plan going true, Robert Smalls was now conversant with the whole Charleston regions, he surprised the federal officers by disapproving their calculations and brought to their attention that the area had only remained with few soldiers to shoulder the responsibility of protection after majority of them being sent to Virginia. He also brought to their attention that the southern Charleston was greatly abandoned without any substantial protection. As a result, the Coles Island was captured by the Union forces peacefully few days after Robert Smalls escape with his seven bears and their families. Why the Story of Robert Smalls will make a compelling play people will want to see The story of Robert Smalls is so daring, heroic and amazing and therefore it has the ability to make a compelling play that most people are yearning to watch. The reason to the holistic proposal is that the struggle and achievements of Robert Smalls never ended at the point of success of his escape plan but it acted as the motivation and morale to his political progress. As he turned 23 years of age, he began gaining familiarity in the North of California as a result of the tribute he received from his heroic daring exploit as reported by a newspaper in the US congress. He tireless initiated projects in New York that was aimed to improve the living standards of the ex-slaves which was eventually outlooked by Admiral Dupont and he resolved back to serve the Union Navy. At this stage he had dared to meet president Abraham Lincoln with the major aim of convincing him and the secretary of war Edwin Stanton to allow the black men to participate in wars for the union. He then managed to persuade president Abraham Lincoln and his request was successfully approved were Edwin Stanton signed an order allowing over 5000 African Americans to participate in the Union forces at Port Royal named first and second South Carolina regiment meaning the colored soldiers. His sequential daring activities which includes his fighting efforts as a pilot on both the CSS Planter and the Ironclad gunship, he was in the forefront of the Union ships in destroying the mines as the fulfilment of his plans while he was in the slavery. Furthermore, Smalls helped the Union army in the destruction of the rail bridge within the harbor area. Robert Smalls on his series of events being the first African-American to fight a civil war and emerged victorious and was appointed to the rank of Major General of Militia in one of the territories in the United States. The story therefore is so dramatic and can make such a nice captivating play. Robert Smalls never had time to consider any retaliation in his missions. He made comeback to the Beaufort the village where his mother and him were enslaved. To admit that he was such a dedicated man, he dared on McKee and purchased the mansion that was owned by his master during his childhood. Moreover, his determination saw him owning the same house where he used to be treated as a slave. It is actually thematic that Smalls did it intentionally this time round as a revenge on the things he went through in the past. It is therefore pleasing and urging to watch all these happenings on a play to bring out the reality of what was going on throughout the course of his life. The most interesting part of his life sounds fantastic and seems to be well illustrated when produced in a play. His family life martialed his daring act as he commandeered the ship with his entire family that was so risk to the extent that they could be fired as a result of stealing the warship and escaping from sl avery. Moreover, he married two wives starting from Hannah Jones, in the year 1857 in Charleston south California who gave birth to two children to whom eventually one passed away at the age of two years due to ailment from smallpox. In the year 1883 Hannah also died and Smalls got married to Annie Elizabeth Wigg in the year 1890and gave birth to one son called William Robert Smalls before Annie dying in the year 1895. In addition, Robert Smalls never stopped in the family life. He continued building his heroic reputation this time round as a political leader in the African-American municipal. He established the Beaufort county in the South Carolina republic where he served on the Beaufort school where he was the founder to establish the first school intended for the overlooked African-American children. At this juncture, Robert Smalls was now becoming more famous out of his daring historical acts that was trending all across the sectors that he developed interests. With all the tributes he offered to the people of Carolina, he decided never to stop but instead he ventured into politics at the era of reconstruction after the civil war. He seemed to be a man of luck, he managed to be elected as the leader of the Low Country to head the South Carolina constitutional convention in the year 1868. Since he was development oriented leader, he took initiative upon his efforts and build a public school to serve the education thirsty among the children of South Carolina and made sure that he protected all the rights of each African-American. He made sure that wherever he is left to deliver a service to the people, he is willing to take risks that might even cause the loss of his life. He served as the leader of the two houses in the year 1868 in South Carolina where he was elected to serve the legislature in the US congress between the year 1869 to 1889. He made sure that he never left a place worse than he found, he therefore made sure that within his five years as the congress man, he pushed the bill that was calling for the creation of Parris Island Marine Base in South Carolina due to his passion in the navy. Smalls achievements are so interesting through is dynamic adventures ranging from slavery, Union Army, politics and education and emerging victorious in all the activities he undertook. He therefore showed that he is unstoppable when he was dedicated to work hard to get somet hing. Why the time is right for this particular story to be heard now At this time of the divisiveness in the United States of America, the story of Robert Smalls is the right story to be heard due to his motivation, heroism and determination that inspires almost every resident in the United States. First and foremost, Robert Smalls showed a lot of bravery in all what he was going through and still made it. He had parentage disputes where his father is not clearly known but was alleged to be the master his mother was serving. He was born under slavery with the minimal freedom but he could still keep his dream alive. He actually did tremendous job by feeling the discrepancies of the other captives and bravely made a plan to deliver all the enslaved families out of the hands of the Henry McKees. He persevered in a cottage behind the master mansion with his mother but he never lost hope. The story is so inspiring and motivational hence should be taken into concern by those individuals who are free and have their all-time to make into something better if a slave can do the same. It is the right time for the story to be heard at this stage. Secondly, Robert Smalls showed a lot of consistency in the attempts he was making in his endeavors. After the election he participated being disputed in the year 1888, he never allowed it to go in vain but he eventually secured a political post as a collector of customs for the port of Beaufort. He secured this political appointment from president Benjamin Harrison to which he maintained this position for twenty years with excellent work. While in this position, he sustained his power in the republican party in South Carolina. This was because of his service deliverance being noteworthy. This time is the correct time to narrate the story of Robert Smalls in the United States and the entire world to teach people on how consistence and perseverance earns tributes. Another virtue that was upheld by Smalls that makes the story fascinating and worthy to be told is the immeasurable patriotism he had over the African-Americans they were together in the slavery. He was concerned a lot with their captivity that he took initiative to take the risk of planning for the escape deal which was not that easy. The undertake was live worthy but he never minds losing his on in the attempt of stealing the war ship and surrendering it to the Union Army. He did all these because he had passion and love for the African-American captives. He also showed the highest democratic levels, this is significant from the case of redemptions that occurred in the year 1876 which they were successful but attempts were made to falsely charge and convict Smalls and forcing him out of office after rejecting to take bribe. It is worthy enough that the to ascertain the story of the Smalls as an exemplary to the American leaders who are bribe oriented than delivering services to the people who have landed them to the jobs as representatives. In addition, the challenges that Smalls faced starting from his childhood, he was despised and discriminated not because of his personality but because he was an African American. Since he was a one man unstoppable, he disapproved them to the despise ascend by making it all through from the age of twelve till his death while still unstoppable. He showed them that the alleged African-Americans also can do it better than the whites. The story at this particular time is recommended to be told to condemn those white American natives who are discriminative to the African-Americans due to race and color and instead, embrace the brotherhood and good living with each other. The And Birth Control Of Latin America - 1636 Words

Countries in Latin America need to minimize the extremely firm restrictions or create a certain set of laws on abortion procedures and be more lenient on the use of birth control due to the increased number of cases of pregnant women infected with the Zika virus. The laws on abortions in Brazil, as well as other Latin American countries, are too strict for Zika infected pregnant women to obtain the procedure. The views on birth control in Latin America and Brazil are too harsh and should be lifted for women to prevent pregnancies that will be affected by the Zika virus. Easier access to abortions and birth control is an effective way of slowing the number of Zika related microcephaly cases in infants whose mothers were infected with the virus. Women become infected and then have to live in worry for nine months, hoping their baby will not be born with this horrible birth defect that governments are allowing babies to be born with undersized heads and brains even though they can preve nt it by allowing women to take birth control and have abortions (Philips, Miroff, and Cobb). Abortions in Latin American countries are rare and only legal on the basis of three situations; 1) the woman was raped, 2) the life of the woman in endangered, or 3) if the fetus the woman is carrying in anencephalic. In six countries, abortion is considered a criminal at and can be punishable by time in prison (Stern). Arizona Senate Bill 1070 Free Essays

Arizona Senate Bill 1070 Our country, today, currently faces many social issues. For instance, drug abuse, child labor, gangs, homelessness, and immigration. The immigration issues is very controversial and continues to rise. We will write a custom essay sample on Arizona Senate Bill 1070 or any similar topic only for you Order Now Many laws and regulations are being passed to help control this issue. Recently Arizona has passed the Senate Bill 1070 which is causing major problems because it affects human rights. This law should not have been passed because it is increasing racial profiling, rebellion leading to crime, and businesses loosing money. As a person, coming from a Hispanic culture this bill affects me personally. I have family who is in this county with visitation visas or working visas. I even have an uncle with no papers. The bill itself is causing problems in their own state. Arizona is not fixing anything but only making it worst. Yes, the government is trying to get rid of people who technically do not have documentation to be here. The bill pretty much means that a police officer can stop anyone of â€Å"reasonable suspicion† of being illegal. The Arizona Senate Bill 1070 states that if the authority has reasonable suspicion they may stop a person to ask for documentation (arz, gov). It also mentions all people of Hispanic decent will have to carry their legal papers just in case they are stopped. If anyone are caught transporting illegal aliens around they will be in trouble with the law. For example, transporting immigrants could be anything from giving they a ride to the store or to church. People who are housing immigrants will also face consequences. S. B. 1070 is not making the issue any better in Arizona communities, but only making it worst. Many other people argue that most of the crime committed in the United States is caused by immigrants. They feel as if they will not have to be responsible for their actions. People argue that immigrants are causing our economy to fail, and they are the reason why many Americans are unemployed. They may also argue that immigrants have caused our country to become over crowded. First of all, giving permission to stop people on a daily basis because a person is suspicious of someone who does not belong in America is just asking for more racial problems. America is known as a â€Å"melting pot† culture, which is a heterogeneous developed society (world dig). How could someone know if a certain person does not belong in America if we are all from different cultures? In 1939 and 1954 America showed its racisms by removing three million undocumented Mexicans. It was called the â€Å"operation wetback†(academic). It is okay to try and get rid of an issue we are having but no one should be called a term that discriminates their race. Its crazy how history repeats itself and now we have a state trying to start a movement by basically encouraging legal racial profiling. I understand punishing people who do not have legal documentation or green card, but why punish the people who travel with them to even go to the store, church, etc.? The bible mentions, â€Å"love your neighbor† but Arizona makes it hard to love your neighbor because a person is not going to love his Hispanic neighbor. They will not want to risk getting in trouble with the law. Many other little problems continue to rise due to the SB 1070. Also, people are going to rebel against this bill because they do not agree with it. More than half of the crime is not reported, but by placing this law, unreported crimes will surely increase. If an illegal alien gets attacked or even something worst happen they will not report it because they fear they may get deported. That itself will give criminals the feeling to aim any attacks against Hispanics because they have a less chance of getting caught. Finally, the idea of trying to get rid of all the Hispanics rapidly is not a great idea for the economy. Factories are mainly worked by Hispanics or lower poverty. Maybe it is true that Hispanics are take a lot of the jobs and leaving Americans unemployed. But, it is a fact that immigrants are working the jobs many Americans do not want to apply for. Immigrants work for less money and are not picky about having benefits. Deporting immigrants all at once will lead factories to close because its not giving them time to rehire anyone to replace the majority of Hispanics controlling the factories. It will be a domino affect of businesses loosing money. How to cite Arizona Senate Bill 1070, Papers

An Inspector Calls Missing scene Essay Example For Students

An Inspector Calls Missing scene Essay Prologue Eva and worker are talking down on a lower floor of the factory, the walls are a bleak white and the ceiling a dirty cream with yellowish cream patches where smoke has gathered and rested on the paint. The floor is a dirty grey and along the edges the floor is beginning to wear revealing the cold stone underneath. There are worn tables in rows with tools across them with large machines used for cutting fabric by each table. In the comer of each table lays a large sewing machine and sprawled across the table are bits of fabric. Sittings on shabby worn wooden chairs by the tables are the workers. They are dressed in skirts and white shirts. They are also wearing aprons, which again they are a brighter white than the shirts yet they are not clean. (Eva throws down her tools and sighs)Eva: I wish we didnt have to do this same boring old job every day.  Ã‚  Worker: Yes this isnt even well paid, we are told that we get paid standard factory wages which may be true, but we work twice as hard and twice as many hours to get the money.  Eva: I know what you mean, Id love to be able to work normal hours, and get paid enough to pay the bills and to keep me well fed.  Worker: I know what we will do, tomorrow morning we will get the girls together and march up to Mr. Birlings office and ask for a raise! Eva: Oh no, I couldnt cause that much trouble, besides Im happy with what I have, Id hate to lose this job. We have to be thankful for what we already have.  Worker: Dont be silly. Tomorrow morning well get our well-earned money.  Next Day:  The scene is acted out in Mr. Birlings office; it is fairly large and decorated in bland creamy white paint. The floor is wooden with an ornate Persian carpet. The carpet is a deep red with oriental designs from the period. There is a large intimidating desk facing the doorway that gives the impression of massiveness when you walk in. It is dark oak and has a classy expensive feel to it. The centre of the desk is left bare, apart from an inkwell with three quills laid next to it with precision. On each side there is neatly placed office equipment. On the left of the table is a typewriter with paper adjacent to it. To the left of the desk pressing against the wall there is a tall, lighter oak filing cabinet, upon which there are some neatly arranged papers and a planner astride the papers. To the left of the door there is a hat stand with a single black tailor-made coat hanging from the nearest hook. Pressed firmly against the adjacent wall there is a bookstand filled with many large and faded books. At the end of the middle row there is a single black and white photograph. There is a window to the left of the bookshelf overlooking the road with a single quill laid across the windowsill. Mr. Birling, seated in a deep brown leather chair, is dressed in long black trousers with black socks and shoes. He is wearing a spotless white shirt and silk waistcoat; the waistcoat is buttoned up and is covered by a plain single-breasted jacket:  Mr. Birling is standing up filing papers by his desk, there is a swift knock at the door and the workers walk into the room leaving Mr. Birling is annoyed that they should disturb him. Eva is standing by a second ringleader; they are in front of another three workers.

Analysis of the Stylistic Features in “Poetry” by Marianne Moore

Analysis of the Stylistic Features in â€Å"Poetry† by Marianne Moore Analysis of the Stylistic Features in ?Poetry? by Marianne Moore ?Poetry?, is one of Marianne Moore?s most famous poems. In it Moore starts out, ?I too, dislike it.? referring to poetry. However, this does not mean that Moore believed in practicing her poetry half-seriously. She simply believed that in order to create great poetry one would enjoy reading the work spiritually and physically. Moore has had several incarnations of the poem ?Poetry?, including one as short as four lines and one as long as thirty-eight lines. The four-line version was so brief that it allowed for a misinterpretation. However, the longer version defines the poem with her famous phrase, ?imaginary garden with real toads in them.? Moore?s poem, ?Poetry?, is a concrete poem in which Moore?s describes how when poetry is to abstract, it becomes ?self-destructive?. This is because the reader has to analyze the poem so much they lose the experience of reading and enjoying it.English: Alexander Blok's poem 'Noch, ulica, fonar...Her poetry is vivid and gives the reader a sense of experiencing the topic with imagery usage, especially when she describes the animals in ?Poetry?. Her contrast between having a poem being genuine and then another being raw makes the poem dramatic and appealing. The majority of her poem talks about what makes a good poem. This has to do with the poets? imaginary ability when writing a poem. Letting their imagination go but at the same time making it seem realistic. Moore?s state?s her idea in a loose style. The sentences are not choppy or right to the point rather they are long and descriptive. Moore?s stanzas are broken up in the middle of sentences and Moore?s third stanza is part of a sentence that doesn?t end till the following paragraph.Moore?s poem, ?Poetry?, is very unique because in it she...

Explore the Local Group of Galaxies

Explore the Local Group of Galaxies Our planet orbits a star inhabiting an immense spiral galaxy called the Milky Way. We can see the Milky Way as part of our night sky. It looks like a faint band of light running through the sky. From our vantage point, its tough to tell that were actually inside a galaxy, and that conundrum had astronomers puzzled until the early years of the 20th Century. In the 1920s, astronomers discussed strange spiral nebulae they were seeing in photographic plates. Theyd been known to exist since at least the mid 1800s, when Lord Rosse (William Parsons) began finding these objects through his telescope. By the early 20th century, some scientists held the view that these spirals are simply part of our own galaxy. Others maintained that they are individual galaxies outside the Milky Way. When Edwin P. Hubble observed a variable star in a distant spiral nebula and measured its distance, he discovered its galaxy was not part of our own. It was a momentous finding and led to the discovery of other galaxies in our nearby neighborhood, including the members of the Local Group. An artists concept of what our galaxy looks like from outside. Note the bar across the center and the two main arms, plus smaller ones. NASA/JPL-Caltech/ESO/R. Hurt The Milky Way is one of about fifty galaxies in the group. Its not the largest spiral; that would be the Andromeda Galaxy. There are also many smaller ones, including oddly shaped  Large Magellanic Cloud and its sibling the Small Magellanic Cloud, along with some dwarfs in elliptical shapes. The Local Group members are bound together by their mutual gravitational attraction and they stick together quite well. Most galaxies in the universe are  accelerating away from us, driven by the action of dark energy, but  the Milky Way and the rest of the Local Group family are close enough together that they stick together through the force of gravity. A graphical representation of the Local Group of galaxies, including our own. It contains at least 54 individual members. Antonio Ciccolella, CC BY-SA 4.0 Local Group Stats Each galaxy in the Local Group has its own size, shape, and defining characteristics. The galaxies in the Local group take up a region of space about 10 million light-years across. And, the group is actually part of an even larger group of galaxies known as the Local Supercluster. It contains many other groups of galaxies, including the Virgo Cluster, which lies about 65 million light-years away. The Major Players of the Local Group There are two galaxies that dominate the local group: our host galaxy, the Milky Way, and the Andromeda galaxy. It lies some two and a half million light-years away from us. Both are barred spiral galaxies and almost all of the other galaxies in the local group are bound gravitationally to one or the other, with a few exceptions. Andromeda and the Milky Way are the two largest members of the local group. In the distant future, they will be colliding. This artists concept shows that collision from the point of view of a planet in the Milky Way. Credit: NASA; ESA; Z. Levay and R. van der Marel, STScI; T. Hallas; and A. Mellinger Milky Way Satellites The galaxies that are bound to the Milky Way galaxy include a number of dwarf galaxies, which are smaller stellar cities that have spherical or irregular shapes. They include: Sagittarius Dwarf GalaxyLarge and Small Magellanic CloudsCanis Major DwarfUrsa Minor DwarfDraco DwarfCarina DwarfSextans DwarfSculptor DwarfFornax DwarfLeo ILeo IIUrsa Major I DwarfUrsa Major II Dwarf Andromeda Satellites The galaxies that are bound to the Andromeda galaxy are: M32M110NGC 147NGC 185Andromeda IAndromeda IIAndromeda IIIAndromeda IVAndromeda VAndromeda VIAndromeda VIIAndromeda VIIIAndromeda IXAndromeda XAndromeda XIAndromeda XIIAndromeda XIIIAndromeda XIVAndromeda XVAndromeda XVIAndromeda XVIIAndromeda XVIIIAndromeda XIXAndromeda XXTriangulum Galaxy (third-largest galaxy in the local group)Pisces Dwarf (unclear if it is a satellite of the Andromeda Galaxy or the Triangulum Galaxy) Other Galaxies in the Local Group There some oddball galaxies in the Local Group that may not be gravitationally bound to either the Andromeda or the Milky Way galaxies. Astronomers generally lump them together as part of the neighborhood, although they are not official members of the Local Group.   The galaxies NGC 3109, Sextans A and the Antlia Dwarf all appear to be gravitationally interacting but are otherwise unbound to any other galaxies. This member of the Local Group is called NGC 3109, as seen by the Galaxy Explorer spacecraft. It may be interacting with another nearby galaxy. NASA/GALEX   There are other nearby galaxies that do not seem to be interacting with any of the above groups of galaxies. They include some nearby dwarfs and irregulars. Others are being cannibalized by the Milky Way in an ongoing cycle of growth that all galaxies experience.   Galactic Mergers Galaxies in close proximity to each other can interact in colossal  mergers if conditions are right. Their gravitational pull on each other leads to a close interaction or an actual merger. Some galaxies mentioned here have and will continue to change over time precisely because they are locked in gravitational dances with each other. As they interact they can rip each other apart. This action - the dance of the galaxies -   significantly alters their shapes. In some cases, the collisions end up with one galaxy absorbing another. In fact, the Milky Way is in the process of cannibalizing a number of dwarf galaxies.   A group of interacting galaxies as seen by Hubble Space Telescope. NASA/ESA/STScI The Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies will continue to eat up other galaxies as time goes by. This appears to be what has happened to create most (if not all) of the galaxies we see today. In the distant past, smaller ones merged to become larger ones. Large spirals then merge and create ellipticals. Its a sequence that has been observed throughout the evolution of the universe. Will Mergers in the Local Group Affect Earth? Certainly the ongoing mergers will continue to reshape the Local Group galaxies, changing their shapes and sizes. The ongoing evolution of galaixes will almost certainly affect the Milky Way, even as it goes about gobbling up smaller galaxies. For example, theres some evidence the Magellanic Clouds might merge with the Milky Way. And, in the distant future  Andromeda and the Milky Way will collide to create a large elliptical galaxy that astronomers have nicknamed Milkdromeda. This collision will commence in a few billion years and radically alter the shapes of both galaxies as the gravitational dance commences. Cross Cultural Management Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Cross Cultural Management - Assignment Example The challenge for managing the multicultural teams effectively lies in the fact to recognize the underlying cultural reasons of conflict, and to interrupt in a way that would get all the teams back on its track and also empower the members in dealing with the future challenges themselves (Bret, Behfar & Kern, 2012). This can be done by providing effective motivation. Motivation within the individuals is seen to vary across the subject areas (Lai, 2011, p.2). Research had suggested that motivation could be manipulated by using certain instructional practices though both positive and its negative effects had been demonstrated. In managing a multicultural team such as one consisting of Nigerian, Chinese and British people, leadership can play a great role. For a global leader understanding international interaction becomes very essential to implement transnational leadership in the global business world of today. Diversity as well as complexity seems to increase in the domestic scenario as the business operations gets more international (Jokinen, 2004, p.199). The challenge while managing motivation in a multicultural team lies in recognizing "the patterns, values, symbols, meanings, beliefs, assumptions, and expectations" (Paget, 2011). This challenge gets most apparent if the leader discovers that "because different cultures hold different views, a managerial style that is effective in one culture will not necessarily be effective in another" (Paget, 2011). These differences observed in cultural outlook could also affect the leader’s communication with his team members if everyone is not found to be speaking in one particular language. Factors affecting motivation in a multicultural team a. Motivation and cultural differences in a multicultural team While managing motivation a multicultural team, there are many factors that need to be addressed. These can be in the form of respect for every culture, goal concentration, teamwork, clarity of thoughts and ex pression by the leader (Reh, 2012. The leader needs to give special attention to the language and culture of the different people in the team (Babler, 2011). Employees who are respected as in their workplaces and made to feel as a part of the entire team have twice the chance to stick with their employer. Staff retention in turn cuts the recruitment costs can make a huge impact for the whole organization (Managing a multicultural workforce, 2008, p.3). Language and cultural attitude can also impact the motivation levels and work behavior. People from variant cultures might have various ways of communicating as well as different values. Using eye contact, body gestures and any formal language and their attitudes towards time-keeping, personal status and the rules are a few of the examples where the cultural differences can make an impact (Managing a multicultural workforce, 2008, p.6). There are many differences in the cultural attitude of the Nigerian, Chinese and the British people . As for example, the color white signifies peace in Nigerian and British culture but in Chinese it symbolizes death (Symbolism of Colors, Associations of The Five Elements, Chinese Beliefs, and Feng Shui, 1998). So if there is any mention of the color there are chances where the Chinese employee might feel de-motivated as he might not be used to such situations. b. Multicultural team work behavior different from others It must be understood that a

Vintage cloth trade - Research Proposal Example Yet the proliferation of online music and change in the customer attitude towards purchase of music has weakened the position of HMV. This paper has conducted a secondary research on HMV to find the loopholes in the current management system and suggest ways in which HMV can improve its future prospects. It has been found that lack of investment in online music business has led to the quick fall of HMV and there are considerable deficiencies in the management system which have further weakened HMV’s share. An analysis of the change noted in the customers’ taste had pointed out the reason behind decline of HMV. Consumers in the digital era have been found to engage in practices such as, piracy and free download, with the support of technology. Improved product differentiation and enhancing customer experience are the possible ways in which HMV can improve its prospects for future. As the last presence of high street music store, HMV, which stands for His Master’s Voice, has a long history of 93 years. HMV is typical enough to represent the whole music entertainment industry as the matter of fact that it is the last remaining music retailer. Their first store was born in 1921 and started to sell gramophones, radios and popular music hall recordings (BBC, 2013). The following new era of CDs (Compact Discs) turned HMV into a hugely profitable music record company successfully during 1980s (BBC, 2013). However, around 2000s, the invention of MP3 has reshaped the traditional pattern that consumers used to listening music. Due to the contribution of digital revolution, which was generated around 2010s, HMV’s retailing experience is no longer as attractive as it was (BBC, 2013). As the HMV’s annual report in 2012 (Figure) proves that the music giant has started suffer from financial losses and sales decline. Nevertheless, since the music retaile r did not react as early enough as it can to embrace the digital trend, HMV formally went into administration in

Value Chain Analysis and Traditional Management Accounting

Value Chain Analysis and Traditional Management Accounting Along with the development of world economic integration, the modern enterprises are facing the competitions and challenges not only from the domestic market, but also from the international markets. The companies are confront with the different economic environment, so that the social environment of accounting may also undergo some major changes(Pierce and ODea,2003). The first one is the research and development of science and technology become an important foundation. Then the ability of access to information and communication become the crucial point of success. Third, the human resources as a prerequisite for firms development and expansion. The final one is an unprecedented development of services, the corporate should have global awareness. The modern enterprise management concept is strategic, long-term and global development, therefore the traditional management accounting may be difficult to adapt this new environment. The cost systems, cost control systems and performance reporting systems of traditional management accounting may be no longer meet the new manufacturing environment. The competition among enterprises is no longer limited to the price of products and services, cost or quality, but rather be reflected in the inter-enterprise value chain. Since the 80s of last century, Professor Michael Porter set the value chain theory has been widely applied to the practice of business management and become the most important management ideas and methods Based on such situation, this assignment will investigate how the value chain analysis challenge and improve the traditional management accounting. First, It will illustrate the weakness of traditional management accounting. Then it will go on to demonstrate the value chain theory. Third, it will consider the difference between traditional management accounting and value chain analysis. The limitation of traditional management accounting There exist five major limitation for traditional management accounting. The first one is the traditional management accounting may treat the firm as a single part. It only provided information for a single enterprise management decision and control, ignoring the external environment and other relevant information also can reflect the firms position in the market(Williamson,1975). Second, the traditional management accounting limited to the collection and analysis of internal financial information, the information break away from the requirements of corporate strategic management and weakened the role of management accounting(Granlund and Lukka, 1998). Third, the concept of traditional management accounting just focus on solving the relevant and individual internal issues. It can not form a sound management system with the market and long-term interests, so that the composition of the budget system just only concentrate on the enterprises internal planning and operations. The forth i s the traditional management accounting adopted financial indicators mainly such as profit and cost to assess and measure the performance of corporate. But the calculation of these indicators do not consider the cost of capital and risk premium, therefore, the report of business performance by these indicators are not accurate. In addition, the measurement of enterprise performance should include monetary and non monetary factors. However, the measurement of indicators by traditional management accounting only include monetary indicators. The final one is the investment decision is an important part for traditional management accounting. The economic evaluation of investment projects mainly through the cash inflows and outflows of entire construction and operation period. This approach chiefly considers the financial benefits, focusing on saving direct materials and labor. However, when facing the global international market, in order to improve and enhance the competitiveness of bu siness, the firm can not only appraise the financial profit, but also should take a variety of non-financial benefits into account (Bhimani and Langfield-Smith. 2007). Because of the limitation of traditional management accounting, the appearance of Strategic Management Accounting expands the perspective of the management accounting (Roslender and Hart, 2003). It clearly explain that the MA should concern about the overall function of the company. It is servicing for developing and controlling the companys strategy. Based on this, the value chain analysis as an crucial method of SMA is the breakthrough. In the following chapter, I will focus on to state the value chain theory. The value chain theory The concept of value chain is firstly proposed by Professor Michael Porter(1985), he demonstrated that if taking the enterprise as a whole it can not discover the firms competitive advantage. The competitive advantage should come from the various mutual separate activities, such as design, production, marketing, delivery and supporting process. Each company is the aggregation of such kinds of activities, all these activities can be expressed with the value chain. After that Shank and Gowindarajan(1993) believe that any corporate value chain should contain the whole process form the raw materials which get from the initial suppliers to the final products which will be delivered to the users. Their greatest contribution is combined the value chain analysis method with the accounting information to make the strategic management become reality. With the development of information technology, Rayport and Sviolda(1995) proposed the virtual value chain, they further enrich the value chain t heory. Dynamically, the value chain analysis is actually a process which around the value-added, continue to coordinate and optimize the value chain. The Value chain as an important management tool should be first an information system which services to its target business management. It have to provide useful information to optimize the business processes, realizing the value-added process and can be utilized for decision-making. The value chain analysis takes all forms of business activities into the value chain and then forecast, decide, analysis, control and evaluate any increased or decreased value which on the value chain. Compared with the traditional management accounting, the value chain analysis expands the range of accounting object and extending the business from the internal core to the entire value chain. If treating the enterprise as a whole, it may be unable to distinguish which is the effective value-added part. But the value chain analysis can decompose the business activ ities, by examining each activities and their relationship with other segments of the value chain to determine the companys added value. Also the concept of value chain vividly summed up the organic links of the firms value creation activities, but the companys value chain is not a single part, it is a crisscross value chain network(Collins and Belcher 1999; Hinterhuber 2002). Therefore, the control of the value chain can not be isolated and dispersed, but should be based on real-time evaluation and multi-dimensional of the full range of control. The differences between value chain and traditional management accounting There may exist three main difference between value chain analysis and traditional management accounting. The first one is the typical character of traditional management accounting is its inward-oriented services, subordinate and serve the enterprises internal organization and management. And the traditional management accounting use the firm itself and its internal units as object, only concerned the enterprise itself and ignored the external factors, so the aims of corporate may lack of long-term competitiveness. In contrast, the value chain analysis tends to extroversion, mainly because enterprises strategy is outward character. The enterprise development strategies should consider the uncertainty of external operating environment as premise, it must pay attention to the changes of the external environment to ensure that the business can survive and develop in such turbulent environment. So the researched scope of value chain is breakthrough the enterprise itself, involved both u pstream and downstream enterprises, also including the competitors. The goals is to maintain a competitive advantage as a starting point, based on system optimization and the long-term competitiveness. The second one is the traditional management accounting focus on the maximization of short-term interests of the enterprise and only concerned about the production process, analyzing the associated cost of three stages of project: supply, production and marketing, never in-depth consideration of the management operating. However the value chain management is directly analysis of to the operating level. It includes five basic operations and four auxiliary operations. The five primary activities is: inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, marketing and sales, and service. And the procurement, technology development, human resources management and enterprise infrastructure as four support activities. On this basis, the value chain analysis can be divide into three levels, one is aimed at the operating management of the basic operations and support operations. The second is the enterprise value chain management. The third one is the firms outside value chain management. These three levels will cooperate with each other and making the management become more objective. In fact, when the competition of firms become the overall strategic competition, the pursuit of long-term goals, market share has become a business imperative goal. Therefore, the value chain analysis follow the long-term and overall interests and maximizing the profit as its main characters The third one is the traditional management accounting based on the enterprise itself and only regarding the firm as a whole or using the internal units as object, the analysis is rather limited. But the value chain analysis not only take the business itself into account, but also consider the rival , suppliers, sales channels and even entire industries, the analysis of subjects is quite diversity. Conclusion To conclude, because of only focusing on the internal management and short-term effect, the traditional management accounting exposed its limitations and can not meet the requirements of business. However, the strategic management accounting is more able to adapt to todays more complex competitive environment and global market, it both concerns the long-term interest and the coordination of internal resources and external environment. In this assignment, the article emphasis on analyzing how the value chain analysis better than the traditional management accounting and stating the main difference between value chain analysis and traditional management accounting. The value chain theory is an important achievement in recent years and it provides a new perspective for the business management.

Restricted Fund Methods

Restricted Fund Method * Organizations that follow restricted fund method present a general fund and one or more restricted funds. * The main purpose of the restricted fund is to record the receipt and the use of the resources from that fund that are subject to restrictions. * This method requires that a general fund be used to report changes in unrestricted net assets. Recognition of endowment contributions: * The endowments contributions are recognized as revenue of the endowment fund in the current period. The only revenue that is reported in the endowment fund is the endowment contribution and the net investment income that is subject to external restrictions. * Any allocation of internal resources to the endowment fund would be accounted for as interfund transfers. * The endowment fund balance at the end represents the accumulation of resources subject to both external and internal restrictions and they should be permanently maintained. * Net investment income earned on resource s held for endowments would be recognized based on if the investment income is restricted or not. Recognition of Restricted Contributions reported in restricted funds: * Restricted contribution for which a restricted fund is present should be recognized as revenue of that fund in the current period. * There can be more than one restricted fund. However, each restricted fund would accumulate resources that are restricted for similar purposes. * Contributions that are restricted should be accounted for the same way on consistent basis. A change in restricted fund is considered to be a change in accounting policy. The restricted fund balance at the reporting date represents the accumulation of resources that are subject to restrictions. * Any allocations of internally restricted resources to a restricted fund are known as interfund transfers. Recognition of Restricted Contributions reported in General funds: * Restricted Contributions for which no restricted fund is present should be recognized in general fund. * The general fund account’s purpose is to account for both unres tricted revenues and restricted contributions for which there is no restricted fund. The restricted contribution reported in general fund would be recognized in the same manner as under deferral method. * If the organization decides to establish a fund for a specific restricted contribution it would be considered a change in accounting policy. The financial statements of the previous years would have to be restated if similar contributions for which the fund is established had been reported in general funds in prior years. Recognition of Unrestricted Contributions: * They should be recognized as revenue of the general fund in current period. * The unrestricted contributions are available for use to the organization. The excess of revenues over expenses in the general fund represents the increase in unrestricted net assets. * Unrestricted resources may be allocated to a restricted fund and this would be considered an interfund transfer.

Essay on poverty Essay

There are many reasons for pursing a higher education. A few persons revel in the intellectual excitement of academic exploration, others â€Å"consume† not only the knowledge that college provides but all the social dimensions associated with it—alcoholic stimulated parties, erotic adventures with new friends, athletic events and intramural sport participation, etc. But for most persons, a significant, maybe even the dominant reason, for going to college is that it supposedly will improve one’s prospect of acquiring a good job. In a sense, a college degree has long been considered a ticket to the middle class—an adult life with a good income and relatively high job security. From the standpoint of society, efforts to expand college graduation attainment rates have been justified by President Obama and major foundations (for example, Lumina and Gates) on a need to be competitive with other nations which have a larger proportion of adults with college degre es. This study argues that the conventional wisdom that going to college is a â€Å"human capital investment† with a high payoff is increasingly wrong. Evidence shows that currently more than one-third of college graduates hold jobs that governmental employment experts tell us require less than a college degree. That proportion of underemployed college graduates has tripled over the past four decades. In 1976, Harvard economics professor Richard Freeman wrote about The Over-Educated American—at a time when most college graduates, at the margin, entered professional, managerial and scientific positions traditionally considered jobs for college graduates. If we were â€Å"overeducated† at that point in time, what is the case today? Moreover, the push to increase enrollments has led to a majority of the increment of our stock of college graduates finding employment in relatively low skilled jobs, most of which are not particularly high paying (although there are excepti ons). We added roughly 20 million college graduates to the population between 1992 and 2008, for example, but the number of graduates holding jobs requiring less-than-college education skill sets rose during that same period by about 12 million; in other words, 60 percent of the total increase in graduates over the past two decades was underemployed. Anecdotally, most persons can see this is their everyday lives. For example, the senior author was startled a year ago when the  person he hired to cut down a tree had a master’s degree in history, the fellow who fixed his furnace was a mathematics graduate, and, more recently, a TSA airport inspector (whose job it was to insure that we took our shoes off while going through security) was a recent college graduate. Actually, these individuals are far more typical of many recent college graduates than is commonly supposed.

Suicidal Adolescents - 863 Words

The question researched for this project was, â€Å"what is an effective intervention for reducing suicidal tendencies in adolescents?† I found four journal articles discussing the results of experiments conducted on suicidal adolescents with use of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). The first article was a 2010 article titled, â€Å"Dialectical Behavior Therapy in Adolescents for Suicide Prevention: Systematic Review of Clinical-Effectiveness.† The second article was published in 2011, titled â€Å"Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A): A Clinical Trial for Patients with Suicidal and Self-injurious Behavior and Borderline Symptoms with a One-year Follow-up.† Third was a 2014 article titled â€Å"Dialectical Behavior Therapy for†¦show more content†¦The study used a quasi-experimental approach. Of the 111 participants, 82 were assigned to the comparison TAU group, and 29 were assigned to the DBT group (Rathus Miller, 2002). The adolescents in the DBT group were on average a year older than the TAU group, and had 93% females compared to 73% female in the TAU group. However, the two groups had the same rate of ethnicity and medication status. The inclusion criteria for participants in the DBT group were based on 2 criteria. First, they must have had a suicide attempt in the last 16 weeks (as measured by clinical interview) or current suicidal ideation (as measured by the Harkavy-Asnis Suicide Survey). Second, they must have a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder or a minimum of three borderline personality features (as measured by the SCID-II). Participants who met both criteria and were deemed to need treatment the most were assigned to the DBT group.
